The two fought to a draw in 2017
The four-fight November 23rd PBC pay-per-view headlined by Deontay Wilder’s rematch with Luis Ortiz will have some free accompaniment on FS2. Unbeaten super featherweight Leduan Barthelemy headlines the prelims against former foe Eduardo Ramirez, with young prospects Omar Juarez and Vito Mielnicki Jr. tagging along in separate bouts.
Barthelemy (15-0-1, 7 KO), brother of Yan and Rances, fought Ramirez (22-2-3, 9 KO) to a questionable draw in a PBC on FOX headliner back in 2017, then missed all of 2018. His two-fight 2019 campaign has seen him win decisions over Miguel Angel Perez Aispuro and veteran Jose Cayetano, the latter as part of the Rigondeaux-Ceja undercard.
Ramirez lost his undefeated record shortly after that draw in an unsuccessful bid for Lee Selby’s IBF featherweight title. Two bounce-back wins set up an eliminator bout with Claudio Marrero, who overcame a slow start to defeat Ramirez by decision.
Barthelemy recently turned 30, so he needs a big win here if he wants to get into the rankings within a reasonable timeframe.
Juarez (5-0, 3 KO) debuted at the age of 19 last year and looks to have an easy task ahead of him in Kevin Shacks (3-4-3, 3 KO), notable only for having a pro record that reminds me of Halo. 17-year-old Melicki (2-0, 2 KO) has yet to go past a round and will look to hand Marlin Bailey (6-5, 4 KO) his fifth consecutive defeat.
The pay-per-view is co-headlined by a garbage fight between Leo Santa Cruz and Miguel Flores, but does feature a pair of quality scraps in Brandon Figueroa-Julio Ceja and Luis Nery-Emmanuel Rodriguez.
